Nestled in the heart of Wheeler County, Georgia (a county located in the mid-southern part of Georgia) just a rock throw from the winding Oconee River lies the peaceful city of Alamo. Named for the famous battle of the Texas Revolution, Alamo, the county seat of Wheeler County, incorporated on August 16, 1909. Located at the intersection of Ga. Highway 126 and U.S. Highway 280, Alamo is one of the only two cities in Wheeler County. Alamo is just minutes from the famous Little Ocmulgee State Park, The Telfair-Wheeler Airport and less than two hours from the Atlantic Coast. Alamo is proud to be the home of Little Ocmulgee EMC, Wheeler Correctional Facility-CoreCivic, and the Wheeler County School System. Our beloved Little Ocmulgee has over 40 employees, serves over 7,000 customers, through almost 2,000 miles of line and spans over 5 counties.
The Wheeler Correctional Facility-CoreCivic has called Alamo it's home since 1998. The Wheeler Correctional Facility-CoreCivic is a leader of our area employment and serves a bed capacity of over 3,000.
And finally, our most prize possession in Alamo is hands down our Wheeler County School System!
